How Many Makeup Brushes You Really Need!

Updated: Apr 30, 2021

Hey beauties! I am so excited to share today's topic: How Many Makeup Brushes You Really Need! I cannot tell you how many times my customers have asked me this question! Makeup brushes are awesome and really helpful when you apply your makeup looks. However, unless you're a professional, you don't need hundreds of brushes to apply your makeup.

So how many makeup brushes do you really need? Beauties, this is seriously one of my favorite questions! While every makeup artist will give you a different answer, I would say on average, you need about 5-10 makeup brushes to apply your makeup looks. You're probably thinking: why the range? Great question. I recommend this range of brushes because everyone has a different level of experience applying their own makeup. For those of you who are newer to wearing makeup, keep it simple and small.

My professional recommendation for beginners and makeup novices is on the lower end of the number range. The less brushes you have, the easier it will be to learn how to use them!

For those of you who are a little more experienced in applying your own makeup, it's okay to have a few more brushes! You are a little more makeup-savvy, and know how to use each brush for any makeup look you wear!

Another factor that you should consider is what style of makeup you like to wear! If you prefer a more natural style, you don't need many brushes. In fact, you can use less brushes. I can teach you how to get the most use out of a small makeup brush collection, so that each of your makeup brushes has multiple jobs in creating your makeup looks.

If you are a glamour queen (or anything in between), it's totally fine if you prefer to have more makeup brushes. After all, the more the merrier, am I right!?! But also, you probably wear more than one makeup style in a week's time. So you most likely need a few more brushes to create your makeup looks.

And yet another thing to consider...

Time!

That's right, beauties. How much time you have to create your makeup looks is also another factor in how many makeup brushes you really need. If you are a busy lady and only have a few minutes to apply your makeup, guess what: you don't need lots of brushes. In fact, you can use your fingers for most of your makeup look. You only need a few necessary brushes where your fingers cannot apply your makeup products on your face. True story, my friends.

Now, here is where it gets interesting. Even though you may be the world's busiest woman, there are certain times where you will want to save some time to apply your makeup look. Special events, trips, date night, etc. (although I have you covered for most of these occasions). If you choose to apply your own makeup for a special event, you most likely give yourself a lot more time to get it just right. This is a time where you want to have a few more makeup brushes in your collection. You want to make sure that you apply your makeup look so it results in the way you want it to!

So beauties, here's the summary of it all. If you are a busy lady (which I know most of you are), then keep it simple and have a few brushes. This will make your life easier because you don't have to take all the time in the world to make sure that you know where all those brushes are and how to use them. However, I know that for some special occasions, you prefer to do your own makeup (for the rest of the times, I have you covered), and need to know what brushes you really need for those specific times. Well my friends, that is when you may need a larger makeup brush collection.

If you need help determining how many makeup brushes you really need, never fear beauties! I am always here for you. During your personal makeup shopping appointment, we will go through your makeup brush collection and I will help you determine if you have enough brushes, or which ones you should add to your collection!
