Should You Follow Makeup Trends On Social Media? A Makeup Artist Weighs In

Hey beauties! Welcome back to Creative Contour By Carla™! Today, I am weighing in on an age old question: should you follow makeup trends on social media? Now, before I get into it, just understand that I am speaking from my own professional opinion. You are a human being with free will, and you can do what you want. So let me just get into my opinion.

Should you follow makeup trends on social media? My answer is... not really. Now let me explain myself.

You're probably wondering what not really pertains to here. When I say not really, I mean that you shouldn't be religiously following every makeup trend, and getting every single product out there to achieve every single thing influencers tell you to do. Remember that they are paid to sell a product. And when it comes to techniques... some of those are questionable at best. There are also environmental consequences to our actions, and I want to be very direct about that as well. The beauty industry is responsible for quite a bit of the problems causing climate change, and it stems from huge beauty corporations pushing influencers to sell you the latest trends on social media.

So in a nutshell, you really shouldn't follow makeup trends on social media.

BUT, there are benefits to watching makeup trends on social media. There are a lot of fun makeup trends out there, and some of those looks and styles may be options for you, beauties. This is why I said not really, because there are some looks to borrow inspiration from in your own makeup routine.

It is okay to use social media makeup trends as an inspiration to what you want to achieve in your makeup routine. I've seen quite a few people this year using the "latte makeup" trend as their inspiration for their routines in makeup lessons. I think it's okay to borrow the inspiration from the trend, but learn how to properly apply it for your unique features.

From my own perspective as a makeup artist, I actually like that the trends have names, because it makes it easier for those of you who aren't makeup artists to find looks that you want to wear! And sometimes, we borrow certain aspects from different looks to create your unique look!

So beauties, that's my perspective on this topic! I hope this was enlightening for you, and now you can make your own decision on whether or not to follow makeup trends on social media!
