Hey beauties, welcome back to Creative Contour By Carla ®! Today I want to talk about why we all need a healthy spirit, and why it benefits our makeup. So if you follow me on social media, you may have seen me mention this is a little while back. It sounds like a stretch, but having a healthy spirit really does benefit our makeup. I'm going to take the long road to explain and connect the dots for you, so grab your favorite snack, get comfy, and let's get into it!

First of all, what is a healthy spirit? How do I get one?
I am so glad you asked. Having a healthy spirit means that we have filled our cup emotionally, physically, mentally, and maintaining good health. Having a healthy spirit is a daily practice. The aspects of what to do to get a healthy spirit is different for each person. Either way, having a healthy spirit is about daily maintenance. We have to find one thing daily that maintains a healthy spirit, whatever that is for you. Some folks, like myself, have more time in their day, and can fit more than one thing. Others only have time for one simple thing daily.
To get a healthy spirit, you have to really sit with yourself and take a look at your daily life. Are your regular practices already filling you up? If yes, that's great! If no, then make a list of where you feel you are unmet. Be honest with yourself. I know this is a hard task to do, but once you do it, you'll feel better, and thank yourself for being so brave! I'm proud of you for even taking the necessary step to getting it all out in the open for yourself.

Here's what I did to get myself spiritually healthy:
First of all, some friends of mine made me see a psychic in 2022. At the time, it felt like total malarkey at what she said. But guess what? She got my past completely correct. So then, I started to explore sessions like these more. By early 2023, I had learned more about myself than ever before. It was shocking then, but totally necessary.
I ended up really leaning into caring for my mental health, which was at an all time low. I was in therapy for a year, and it really benefitted me. I learned the tools I needed to give myself what I really need in this life. I became braver and more confident.
This was the start of my journey on getting a healthy spirit.

Once I was able to help myself mentally, I got into my physical health and appearance. Yes, these things also count towards a healthy spirit, no matter how shallow it sounds. I started eating better and taking care of my body through walking, yoga, and pilates. If you've never done pilates, let me tell you. It works you really hard in the moment, but the discipline helps you maintain your physical health like no other. You really do feel different.
Privately practicing yoga helped my mind focus inwards, and work towards what I needed to do for myself. Combining yoga, pilates, and healthy eating really changed me for the better. I started feeling a lot better!
Once I felt better, my skin literally looked better. Then I wanted to improve my outward appearance to reflect how I felt! I started wearing more jewelry, and created my own custom personal style. I of course mainly used clothing I already own, and only purchased new clothes if it was something I didn't already have, or needed a new size. Sustainability still matters to me!
Lo and behold, I woke up one day and my spirit was truly awakened! I started noticing more people complimenting me on my outward appearance, and before I knew it, people were telling me they loved my energy. I was even told by close peers that they met people at events (of which I did not attend), and my name was mentioned in rooms in a positive manner.
It's been a journey, but I just knew one day that I had a healthy spirit. I needed to take these steps for myself in order to get here. And I make it my business to maintain it as best I can.

How can YOU get a healthy spirit?
First, you need to evaluate if you are already doing things that fill your cup to make your spirit healthy. If not, then you need to make a list of all the things you want and/or need to get a healthy spirit. Once you have this information, it's time to implement.
I always like to start implementing these in ways that are super easy in my life. If you find you are someone who does not have a lot of time for self care, find something that you already do for yourself daily, and give it a little finesse. For example: if you wash your face every night before bed (if you're one of my beauties, you're doing this religiously), then amp it up a bit. Run the water to the temperature you like best, rinse your hands in it to indulge. Lather up your cleanser really well and massage it in. Make this daily practice more indulgent. It's only a couple of minutes in your day. This is just an example, but you really will feel the difference.
Self care isn't always luxurious things. It's the steps that are necessary for taking care of ourselves. It's not always physical things, either. It could also be holding strong boundaries with those around you. Whatever you need to do to maintain a healthy spirit, do it.
This is why I told you to make a list if you do not do things that fill your cup, because more often than not, you'll find something you can do easily!
