Why Proper Skin Preparation Creates Beautiful, Flawless, Long-Lasting Makeup!
Updated: Oct 15
Hi Beauties! I know it's rare that I write my blog posts on Wednesdays, but this one is super important! Today I wanted to discuss why proper skin preparation creates beautiful, flawless, long-lasting makeup!
First of all, what is skin preparation? Skin preparation is the process of preparing the skin for makeup with appropriate skincare products. The products used depends on what type of skin you have. As a licensed esthetician, I can ask you a few questions combined with my skin knowledge to perform a mini skin analysis. Based on your answers during my brief skin analysis, I will select the skincare products in my kit that I feel are appropriate for your skin type.

Now that you understand what skin preparation is, let's discuss why it is important!
Skin preparation is important during your makeup application for a few reasons. The most important reason is that it helps your makeup last long! If you haven't heard this before, be READY for a shocking revelation: most makeup artists do not use primer. They instead prepare the skin with appropriate products. During my makeup applications, I only use a primer if my clients inform me that they have areas of the face/neck that are super sweaty or oily.
So why is skin preparation stronger than primer? Not all skin types require a primer. Skin preparation is stronger than a primer because the products absorb into the skin and create a smooth surface for the makeup to sit. (I know what you are thinking: "Oh no, cakey makeup!" WRONG.) Because we are using the appropriate products for your skin type, the skin will be ready for makeup! For example, if you have a dry skin type, your skin craves moisture. We will use hydrating products during skin preparation to create soft, smooth skin! If you have an oily skin type, we will use the appropriate products to help soak up some of the oil without drying out the skin.
Also beauties, don't forget about products used during the makeup application! Once skin preparation is complete, I will use appropriate makeup products for your skin type as well. For those who are on the dry side, I use hydrating makeup products. For the oily folks, I use strong, long-lasting products that will survive the oil flow.
So beauties, that's skin preparation! Remember its importance on your special day: fresh, glowing skin from within, long-lasting makeup, beautiful pictures!
