Why We Love Teaching Live Makeup Demonstrations

Hey beauties! Welcome back to Creative Contour By Carla ®! I want to express my deepest gratitude for those of you who have reserved me for a live makeup demonstration in the past, as well as acknowledge why I love teaching them in today's blog. Let's jump right in!

Here I am, in my element!

So first of all, for those of you who don't know: a live makeup demonstration is literally me teaching some aspect of makeup in front of an audience. Depending on the amount of time I am allotted at the event, you may even seen a full face of makeup as the result! This is a Makeup Experience that is so customizable, that any audience can learn something.

Let's get into why I love hosting them.

Funny enough, in the past I actually hated public speaking. One of the aspects of being a makeup artist I loved was that I was behind the scenes, and my clients were the focus! And somewhere during the covid19 pandemic, that seemed to change. I initially was just offering makeup services where you sit in my chair, and I apply a beautiful makeup look on you. During the pandemic, everything changed in my world completely. I started teaching individual people how to look good for their zoom meetings, and then it started blossoming after that! It's been quite a ride these past few years.

Here we are, yet again!

Something changed within me, as I started teaching more people how to apply their own makeup. I truly cannot explain it, but there was just this level of confidence that was developing within me. My customers were truly listening to every tip and technique I gave them. (Thank you so much by the way, I appreciate you all respecting my hard work!) And then before I knew it, I was receiving group makeup class inquiries and by 2022, I had taught my real first makeup demonstration. I just didn't know it at the time.

I taught an easy, 5-minute makeup look for busy mothers at a retreat, and it was a success! The audience took a little bit to warm up to me, but when they did, they were so engaged! I am so grateful. I didn't understand it at the time, but I was being led down this path.

Then these group classes seemed to be a hit, as I was getting inquiries for teen birthday parties, girls' nights, and the like. It was so much fun!

In June 2024, I hosted another live makeup demonstration at a women's event, and that's where everything changed for me. I was nervous, excited, but overall, really calm. I knew what I was doing! It was a complete success, with only 4 people in attendance in the audience. But, it gave me the confidence to keep going.

Then we hit November 2024, where I taught my first large live makeup demonstration. The audience was a total of 100 people! I couldn't believe it. As we got closer to the day, I admit I was pretty nervous. I didn't know how I would do with public speaking in front of such a large crowd. Before I knew it, it was my time to shine! I was on stage, teaching an easy makeup look with a complexion focus. The audience was engaged and asked so many questions! They started asking questions right away!! I couldn't believe it! It was a complete success, and I received a lot of compliments after it was done.

So beauties, here we are today! I love teaching your attendees, because makeup is a fun, interesting topic that everyone wants to see happen live. I have so much fun answering questions, and showing attendees new techniques! I can't wait to teach the audience at your next event!
